Public Yoga Classes

Moving better means feeling better.

Do you want to be more balanced?

Feel you could benefit from better posture?

Surely life would be better were you more mobile?

How about getting better sleep?

Aches, pains, and life’s worries can leave you in a physical and mental fog. You don’t feel like yourself.

Jumping up to grab the front door or getting in and out of the car isn’t happening as easily as it used to. It’s hard to think clearly – you’re either over-tired and sluggish or too jittery and reactive.

A lot is happening right now but not a lot of self-care. What if you were able to do something besides grabbing a coffee for that boost of energy you need?

We all know exercise has countless proven health benefits…

But how do you know yoga is the exercise for you?

These classes emphasize muscular alignment paired with introspection. Movements and postures are designed to stretch and develop your muscles while challenging your proprioception safely. This leads to less falling on the ice in winter, picking up kids with more ease, and more coordinated reaction time when that jar falls out of the cabinet.

Sometimes the key to releasing chronic pain is just moving differently from our norm. Think of your regular day. How often do you sit on the floor? Wiggle your toes? Put any weight on your hands? (Touching a keyboard doesn’t count!)

These drop-in style yoga classes for men and women…

While I see a noticeable benefit to people who come to yoga weekly, I realize schedules don’t always allow for it. This drop-in style class lets you come as often or as infrequently as your schedule allows.

No prior yoga or meditation experience is required, and I will provide modifications for all levels.

Whether you need more mobility for your workouts or are just getting back into the swing of things, I promise to provide an inclusive atmosphere when I’m teaching.

If the variety and unexpectedness of a public class is a concern for you, consider booking a one-on-one yoga therapy session first.

All ages are welcome, but I may request more information from parents or guardians of teens.

Let’s talk about what these classes look like…

The poses will be safely aligned for your body.

We all must start – or re-start – somewhere. Safe modifications let you build up your strength and mobility over time while still feeling like you are part of the class.

The movements will not only make you stronger on the yoga mat but help you move better off of the yoga mat.

In class, we’ll explore when to stretch muscles to make them stronger and when to relax them. So often, aches and pains come from not too much of one thing – lack of movement or too much of only a few movements. You will explore moving your body in DIFFERENT ways.

Breath work is used to help keep you grounded in the present moment, so you can put your busy life aside for an hour.

This focus on breath has been shown to improve sleep as well as mental clarity. Whether it be a particular breathing technique or merely noticing your breath, this is a skill you can take off your mat the next time you feel overwhelmed.

Each 60-minute class will include a 5-10-minute rest.

This lets your nervous system integrate what your body did in class, one of the benefits of yoga: It helps your body and brain organize complex information quickly. The next time you come to your yoga mat, your body will say, “Hey, we’ve done this before… I got this.” It helps you progress over time to accomplish your goals.

Leave feeling refreshed.

Stand taller after class and notice if life’s worries seem a little bit simpler after taking an hour for yourself.

I’ll warn you… no cookie-cutter yoga here!

No two classes will be identical week-to-week.

Some yoga studios will teach a set sequence. I will vary the class content each week. The body responds positively when new tasks are accomplished, and you’ll become stronger and more mobile the more often you come to class.

..Get out of your head and into your body!

I’ve had over 1000 hours of yoga training based in alignment, mindfulness, and the latest pain research and neuroscience.

These classes provide a welcoming atmosphere for beginners and advanced students, with options for everyone. Regardless of what strength or flexibility you do or do not have, it’s ok. I promise to meet you where you are, so you can enjoy class and find the right mix of effort and ease for you.
