PostpartumYoga Therapy

Everyone said this would be the most wonderful time of your life…

But you’re so exhausted that you can barely keep your eyes open to take in your new family. Your neck and back are probably killing you, and breastfeeding’s not going as you had planned.

You know how to stretch and used to be really good at self-care, but this is an entirely new type of upper body tension.

You can’t decipher whether it’s your body or your emotions that are more frustrating… but you have to change diaper number 8, so you’ll just have to figure that one out later.

The rollercoaster of emotions is exhausting.

The mommy books warned you that your hormones would be off. But it seems like every day you go from sad to scared… to feeling guilty for feeling sad and scared.

You love this kid so much… so why is this so damn hard?

The anxiety is keeping you up at night but by the time morning comes, you are so tired you have no motivation to do anything about it, and the cycle of “I should do… I should feel…” starts all over.

“I should’ve told myself then…”

Your future seemed so clear before, and now it just seems overwhelming.

Sometimes you wonder if this was a huge mistake.

And right as you start to go down that rabbit hole of the girl you used to be, someone has to eat again. It’s killing your shoulder, but he sure is cute.

From “independent woman” to “it takes a village”…

Being stuck at home in sweats is isolating… all the more when you have to quarantine.

You can see that family and friends want to support you, but it falls flat.

Wasn’t this supposed to be natural? Shouldn’t feeling better be within your grasp?

Life took your this far for a reason.

You’ve made all the right choices, but now you’re filled with doubt. A better life is within your reach…
you just need to remember how to listen to your own body.

You’re smart. You’re dedicated. You don’t have to feel bad for taking care of yourself.

You wouldn’t let your mom or your husband sit in this much pain, so why are you?

“Home is in my hair, my lips, my arms, my thighs, my feet and my hands. I am my own home. And when I
wake up crying in the morning, thinking of how lonely I am, I pinch my skin, tug at my hair, remind
myself that I am alive. Remind myself to step outside and greet the morning. Remind myself that it’s all
about forward motion. It’s all about change.”

Medical professionals agree that yoga is key…

Physical therapists that work on strengthening the pelvic floor… and OB/GYNs agree that relaxing muscular tension with yoga is so important to a healthy life after pregnancy.

The problem is that, in a traditional medical setting, they don’t always have time to teach relaxation.

Your nervous system needs it. It will help you be the best version of yourself at home, so you can enjoy time with your family instead of shouldering it all yourself.

And what better place to practice relaxation than in the comfort of your own home?

Here’s what postpartum yoga therapy looks like…

You’re always welcome to attend classes, but I recommend you first do one or two sessions of individual
yoga therapy so we can tune into your unique experience. That’ll also allow us to make sure that the
postures are both safe and customized just for you.

After discussing your goals and health history, we’ll start with gentle joint warm-ups and centering.

Most of the session will be breath and movement. Some postures may feel like stretching or
strengthening; others might be more restorative so that you’ll feel refreshed and rejuvenated after the
session.

That’s the fancy way of saying, “New moms need rest!”

After meditation and reflection, you’ll set a realistic, appropriate goal to work on that week. As you
progress, your life off of the yoga mat will start to feel like what you want.

Not sure what that feeling is? We’ll figure it out together.

“So helpful. This session gave me what I needed and more. It was down to business and relaxing at the
same time. I wish I did this sooner.” –Jen, postpartum therapy client
