About

Mindfulness…

For the first two quarters of the year, Gary* worked long hours because he wanted to be stress-free during his family’s beach vacation.

He looked forward to the trip for months. The drive there was fun, and he had a great lunch on the water with everyone when he got there.

Everyone was getting changed to go for a swim, and Gary picked up his phone to check a few emails in the downtime. Thirty minutes later, he told his wife to go on without him… he’d meet them down there.

He did eventually, but he always had one eye on work. In the back of his mind, Gary knew he was missing out on moments he’d never get back, but he just couldn’t put the phone away.

Feeling disconnected from your body…

Just like Gary, you know something must change.

But you need the tools of a professional therapist to help you get in touch with those.

Yoga therapy utilizes mindfulness techniques so that how you want your life to be can better match your actions – connecting your mind and body.

You’re ready for things to be different.

Sometimes radical transformation is possible in only a few sessions.

Jenelle* had been living with back pain for two years, diligently seeing her chiropractor every week, and the pain just got worse. She felt like the tinman every time she moved. After just a few yoga therapy sessions she was back to running.

Mario* couldn’t relax. He had been on prescriptions for years to calm down, no help there. He found himself staying later at work and eating fast food in his car for dinner because he knew he was so wound up that he’d lash out at someone at home. He tried restorative yoga because everyone said it would relax him, but seeing the rest of the group calm while he wanted to crawl out of his skin was not helpful. It was working with me privately, with individualized support, that revealed why his body was wound up so tightly. Shortly after he started yoga therapy, his daughter got married. He was able to stay fully present to his little girl on her big day.

All sessions are judgment-free, and I will meet your body exactly where it is. Zero yoga experience or flexibility are needed to get started. You’ll receive individualized attention.

Together, we’ll get to the root of what’s keeping you from sustainable life change, going deeper than just treating symptoms.

Close your eyes, feel your breath.

What is your body telling you?

Maybe it’s just a whisper and not a scream… yet.

You put so much effort and quality work into everything else you do. Why aren’t you going to give your body and personal life 200%?

About Me

I remember sitting at my laptop achy with knots in my stomach…

… feeling terrified and powerless at my desk.

This had just become an ordinary day at work. My body had become physically enveloped in corporate stress and sales quotas.

Between ending a toxic relationship and the 60 hours I spent staring at my laptop, I had almost no appetite. Friends complimented me on how much weight I had lost. My worries were crushing me from the inside out. My body was telling me I needed a change.

Yoga was first introduced to me as a teen in the dance studio…

… but it was always to make me jump higher or more flexible. At my most stressed and depressed, weekly yoga classes became my break. I thought it was my hour of the day to turn my brain off. In hindsight, now I see it was my hour of the day to get into my body. My brain was still working, but I was happier.

Still in search of change and looking for a new summer hobby in my twenties, I decided to enroll in a yoga teacher training in Rochester, NY. I became fascinated with the way muscles and bones moved. I started helping myself and others move better. And moving better feels better.

Hunched over the computer still ached – but now with what I had learned in yoga, I could learn to self-support. I could get up from the desk and lengthen my spine, breathe into my chest, wiggle my arms around.

I changed my relationship to my corporate job. Work stopped disturbing my sleep. I sit up tall. I eat when I want because I’m an adult human.

Now and then that ache shows up, but it isn’t at work. Sometimes it is in difficult conversations, disappointment, and relationship struggles.

My yoga practice helps me overcome that ache whenever it starts to speak.

Why did I decide to study with Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy? It is for ALL bodies. Whether you are injured, an athlete, or just plain tired, the session can be tailored to you.

More importantly, each client focuses on what is most important to them at their core. Your body won’t hesitate to tell you what makes it joyful, upset, and everywhere in between. Sometimes you need some quiet space with it.

In my downtime…

I live in Pittsford, NY. My favorite way to spend a day is at one of the Finger Lakes with my dog, Tortellino, with some great locally sourced food.

My family is near and dear to me, and I love spending time with them.
